Eighty patients undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery were randomized to receive either a fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB; n=39) or a pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block combined with a lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) block (n=39). The primary outcome of interest was the rate of quadriceps weakness after nerve block. Secondary outcomes included muscle strength grading, static and dynamic pain scores, and quality of recovery on the second postoperative day. Outcomes were assessed over 48 hours. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the PENG block group had a significantly lower incidence of quadriceps weakness, lower pain scores, and improved postoperative recovery. The findings suggest that PENG combined with LFCN block offers better pain control and facilitates faster recovery compared to FICB.
