Effect of Home-based Telerehabilitation on the Postoperative Rehabilitation Outcome of Hip Fracture in the Aging Population
Orthop Surg. 2022 Aug;14(8):1768-1777.Fifty-one patients undergoing hip fracture surgery were randomized to receive either a home-based telerehabilitation internet program (n=27) or telephone check-ins (n=24). Outcomes of interest included the Harris Hip Score (HHS), Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), measured at 1 and 3 months post-operation. Overall, significant differences were reported between the telerehabilitation and telephone groups at 1 and 3 months when considering Harris Hip Scores, and Functional Independence Measures. Significant differences were also reported in these scores at 1 and 3 months in patients who had undergone internal fixation with better scores in the telerehabilitation group. TUG and SPPB scores were also significantly better in the telerehabilitation group at 3 months.
