Combination of Pregabalin and Naproxen Superior to Naproxen in Reducing Pain in Ankle Fracture .
Is perioperative use of a combination of pregabalin and naproxen superior to naproxen only in reducing pain in ankle fractures? A prospective, randomized, multicenter study.
J Orthop Surg Res. 2024 Dec 26;19(1):882.Seventy patients with rotatory ankle fractures were randomized to receive either naproxen alone (n=35) or naproxen plus pregabalin (n=35). The primary outcome was postoperative pain measured by the visual analog scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included opioid consumption, adverse effects, and functional scores (Olerud and Molander Score, A-FORM) over a six-month follow-up. Overall, the results of the study revealed no significant differences in pain scores, opioid use, or functional outcomes between groups, although dizziness and somnolence were more frequent in the pregabalin group at 48–72 hours. The findings suggest that adding pregabalin to naproxen does not enhance analgesia but may increase side effects.
