100 patients (50 TKA and 50 THA) who were over the age of 18 and scheduled to receive either TKA or THA, were randomly assigned into 1 of 2 groups (an intervention and a placebo) to determine the effect that topical tranexamic acid, applied at the joint space immediately prior to joint closure for TKA and THA, had on blood loss in patients following surgery.
